Police are investigating a hit-and-run that occurred along Truman Road early Sunday morning.

The driver of a BMW was travelling west and sped through a red light at the intersection of Truman Road and Van Brunt Boulevard where it hit a gray Honda Civic traveling north, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The BMW lost control after the impact and went off the road, hitting and killing a pedestrian walking in the buffered bicycle lane, before hitting a wooden utility pole.

Witnesses say there were two people in the BMW, and both fled the scene on foot headed west on Truman Road.

The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda was not injured.

This was Kansas City’s 60th vehicle-related fatality, according to KCPD.
