The Kansas City Museum is excited to announce that Elixir, their soda fountain located downstairs is launching a new drink menu on Thursday, June 20 just in time for the Summer Solstice! The Culinary Associate team has created six new Elixir drinks that are classic, refreshing, and inclusive. Guests will enjoy the Blood Orange Blossom Phosphate (Lime Yuzu Fever Tree, Blood Orange syrup, Orange Blossom water, phosphate, crushed ice) or the Espresso Rose Spritzer (Espresso, rose water, lemon, shaken, sparkling water, simple syrup, orange peel) just to name a few. Phosphate, an ingredient made popular in soda fountain drinks in the 1870s, originally started as a health tonic adding phosphoric acid to fruit juices and beverages. Phosphates have a slightly tangy flavor and an effervescence created when added to carbonated beverages.
“The menu was created to bring back old soda fountain drinks and culture, focusing on refreshing flavors that don’t depend on the usual heavy sweetness found in so many popular soda drinks today but bring back the nostalgia of light refreshing flavor and bubbles” said Culinary Associate Laura Shannon.
Aesthetically the team created a menu that compliments the architecture and renovation of the museum. Flavors are for every palette; visitors, neighbors, friends, grandparents, grandchildren can all come toast together.
Elixir is open Thursdays from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. with Happy Hour, Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No reservations are required. Guests are also welcome to the Billiard Room – to play pool, board games, and cards; read, relax, and enjoy.
