Every morning many students rush to get to school right before the bell rings. It marks the beginning and the ending of each day. This will probably never change, but one thing that will this August is Kansas City Missouri School District’s bell times.

“After receiving consistent feedback on school bell times from our community, we knew we needed to act and switch the bell times,” said Superintendent Dr. John Covington.

More than 70 percent of people who took an online survey showed a desire to reverse the school bell times.

Last year’s bell times were based on research and data but “our families and their needs come first,” said Covington.

The revised bell times are as follows:

7:20 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. for grades seven through 12

8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. for grades pre-K through six

KCMSD will launch “On Time or Fall Behind” this fall to offer incentives for students to show exceptional attendance quarterly.
