Staff from the Kansas City Parks & Recreation’s Athletic Department will host two community meetings this week to present plans for the recently funded improvements at the 9th and Van Brunt Soccer Complex. The first meeting will be at the complex on Thursday, April 11, beginning at 6:00 pm. An additional meeting will be held on Saturday, April 13, beginning at 11 am.
Lane Johnson, Public Information Officer for the Parks Department, stated, “Later this spring our staff and construction team will engage directly with residents to further discuss the project and gather valuable feedback and suggestions, and will be a time for the community to be heard and be a part of the development process.”
City Council approved $3 million to fund the upgrades during their session on March 21st of this year. In addition to new synthetic turf, which was installed last month, improvements to the complex will include locker rooms with showers and restrooms, field lighting, a scoreboard, and bleacher seating.
The 12 acre site currently contains a variety of features including a playground, amphitheater, concessions stand, and walking trails.
Dates and times for the engagement sessions will be announced in weeks to come, be sure to follow the Northeast News as this project progresses.
