Sunday evening around 7:45 pm, KCPD officers were called to the 3500 block of Roberts on the call of a shooting. While officers were en route to that call, an adult, female victim showed up at a fire station, transported by a friend who confirmed that she was shot near the intersection of Roberts and Bales Avenues. The victim, later identified as 26 year old Melissa Brown of Kansas City was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements. The circumstances surrounding the homicide are being investigated. There is no person of interest identified and there is nobody in custody at this time.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
We are working with Partners for Peace in all our homicide investigations to monitor risks for retaliation and provide social services to affected residents.
This is the city's 177th homicide of the year.
