After an HVAC failure on one of the hottest days of the year at the Parkview Healthcare Center at 128 North Hardesty Ave., over a dozen local and regional agencies came together to ensure
some of Kansas City’s most vulnerable citizens were carefully moved to other local facilities.

According to the Kansas City, Mo., Fire Department, 117 patients at Parkview were relocated via RideKC buses or ambulances after the center’s air conditioning failed late Tuesday afternoon
when heat indexes soared into the triple digits. Seven of the patients were COVID-19 positive and those individuals were relocated to local hospitals. Fire officials said no other heat related illnesses or issues occurred during the operation.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the Mid America Regional Council, University Health, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and RideKC all played a role in the operation.
No word from Parkview’s Management on what caused the failure or when repairs would be
made.
