Meal service is suspended for Friday and Food Rescue Operations are suspended for Saturday of this week after kitchen staff were exposed to COVID.

NourishKC will close the dining room at Kansas City Community Kitchen on Friday, Jan. 27, located at 750 Paseo Blvd., due to a positive COVID test among staff. 

NourishKC has notified volunteers of the possible exposure and encourages volunteers and volunteer groups to reschedule their volunteer service on the NourishKC website, nourishkc.org/get-involved/volunteer. Food rescue operations will also be suspended for Saturday, Jan. 28 and normal operations will resume on Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.   

“While our goal has always been to serve our community, part of that service includes keeping people healthy,” said Mandi Jean Retter, Advancement Director of NourishKC.  “Kansas City Community Kitchen will close today, January 27, and close tomorrow, January 28, so all staff can be tested, and proper cleaning can take place.  KCCK will REOPEN for dine-in service and to-go meal service on Monday, January 30.” 

Kansas City Community Kitchen’s normal hours of service are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Since 1988, the mission of NourishKC has been to rescue fresh local food, prepare nutritious meals, and serve as a community partner to address hunger’s core causes. NourishKC bases the efforts of its programs – Kansas City Community Kitchen (KCCK), Food Rescue, and Culinary Skills Training – on the belief that Food is a Basic Human Right.

They believe the meals served to guests should be hot, fresh, and nutritious. In 2022, KCCK served more than 188,000 meals free of charge. The Food Rescue program provides healthy, nutritious food to KCCK and to several local food pantries for distribution to local families. The program rescued more than 522,000 pounds of usable food in 2022.
