Captain Dale Simmons with The Salvation Army described it as a “big block party.” It’s the annual Neighborhood Celebration, which will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 3013 E. 9th St., Kansas City, Mo.

“Our goal is to develop our caring community, so people will know their neighborhoods and will see they can have fun together,” Simmons said.

The free event will include carnival games, health screenings and prize giveaways. There will also be clowns, face painting, inflatable games, a mime, worship dancers and a presentation by the Kansas City Jazz Museum.

Attendees will also learn more about The Salvation Army and the myriad of services it offers.

A free lunch will be provided and will include hot dogs, grilled chicken, chips and beverages. All are welcome.
