Christine’s Place and Relentless Pursuit are working to combat human trafficking along one of the city’s oldest venues for prostitution and the illegal sex trade, Independence Avenue.

Thanks to the help of a national medical student charity called D.O. More United and a new local chapter of medical students at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU) dedicated to giving back to the Historic Northeast community, Christine’s Place and Relentless Pursuit Outreach are slated to be on the receiving end of some additional funds to assist them in their daily mission.

Michael Mazur, a senior at KCU, founded the local chapter of D.O. More United in order to give back to the local community, specifically the Independence Avenue corridor.

“We looked at charities close to the med school and after talking with Northeast Chamber President Bobbi Baker-Hughes, determined that Christine’s Place was a perfect fit for our mission,” Mazur said.

Jennifer Weaver, Board Member and Treasurer for Relentless Pursuit Outreach and Recovery is thrilled about being the beneficiary of the fundraising effort.

“We’re super grateful that a group of medical students would put their time and energy into helping the vulnerable population we serve at Christine’s Place and Relentless Pursuit,” Weaver said. “Every dollar counts. This will go a long way in helping the girls we serve obtain birth certificates and state ID’s, and that’s the first step in helping girls get out of this destructive cycle of life.”
