Joseph Charles Moretina, lovingly referred to as “Joe Morgan,” of Kansas City, Mo., died suddenly on July 2, 2021, at the age of 66.

Joe was born on August 15, 1954, to Charles and Rose Moretina. Joe was one of seven siblings to whom he remained very close until the day he passed. At a young age Joe married Janet Sims and they had three beautiful children together, Charlie, Joey, and Rose Christina.

Years later Joe found the love of his life, Viviane Ford, and they spent 17 wonderful years together. Combined, Joe and Viviane brought together seven children and nine grandchildren into a wonderful loving family. They enjoyed spending time at their condo at the lake, cooking for their family, and traveling to Chicago and other fun destinations.

Joe was first and foremost a devoted father and grandfather. There were many occasions his kids remember their dad waking them to delicious home-cooked meals at all hours of the night. Joe’s kids and grandkids have cherished memories of yearly summer vacations spent at the Lake of the Ozarks with their dad and papa. Joe made it his personal mission to make sure his family had a great time and of course, he made sure everyone was well-fed. His kids and grandkids absolutely adored their dad and papa and each had a special bond with him that they will always treasure.

Joe enjoyed monthly brother/sister nights with his siblings. Joe was always happy and easygoing. He not only brought the food to the party, but the laughter, smiles and fun-loving affection.

Joe had a true gift and passion for cooking and showed his love and affection through the meals he prepared for others. His appreciation for food was the center of all of our extended family gatherings and always included special requests from his nephews. Many of Joe’s recipes and cooking techniques came from his mom, Rose.

Joe was a hard worker and a successful bar owner. Moretina’s Caddyshack has become a town favorite and is known for Joe’s famous Sicilian style pizza. People of all ages would go looking to enjoy time spent with Joe. Joe made Caddyshack a family. Customers loved him, families gathered there, and his employees respected and adored him.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed golfing with his son Joey and their friends, along with occasional weekend golf trips throughout the country. He also loved watching his grandchildren compete in athletics. He was their biggest fan on and off the field.

It goes without saying that Joe was loved beyond measure and a special part of our family. His smile would light up any room he walked into. He was the epitome of a friend, easy to talk to, understanding, and supportive. He was the most thoughtful and loving Dad, Papa, Uncle, Brother, Son and Friend. To know Joe was to love him. He lived life to the fullest and he will be terribly missed.

Joe was preceded in death by his son Charlie D. Moretina, father Charles D. Moretina, mother Rosemarie Moretina, sister Rosemary DiGirlamo, brother John Moretina, and nephew Thomas A. Simone.

Survived by partner Viviane Ford; son Joe C. Moretina, Jr.; daughter Rose Christina Bernstein (David); Erica Tebbe (Will DiCapo), Brian Tebbe, Jimmy Ducoulombier (Lauren), and Chris Morehouse; grandchildren Charlee Moretina, Poppy Moretina, Charlie Bernstein, Sam Bernstein, Louie Bernstein, Johnny Joe Serrone, Genovese DiCapo, Remi Ducoulombier, River Ducoulombier; brother Jim Moretina (Jeanne), sisters Edie Simone (Anthony), Clara Moretina, Nancy Wigington (Louie), Gina Sciara; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Kansas City North. Burial will follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
