If ever there was a couple who personify Historic Northeast, Jerry and Pat Hulse are that couple.

Both have lived here over eighty years. Pat is 81 and Jerry is 83 and have been married for almost 64 years. They’ve lived in the same house on North Oakley Avenue since 1962.

When we asked Pat and “Jer” what their favorite part of Northeast was, both responded immediately and simultaneously: “Diversity.”

“I need to be where there’s diversity,” said Pat. “We would not do well in the suburbs.”

Regarding those who question moving into the neighborhood, both were adamant.

“Come ahead. This is a wonderful community, it’s homey, people are friendly, you actually get to know your neighbors. Don’t stay in your house and be scared; reach out and say hello.”
