Seventeen year old Somoan Harter and eighteen year old Kyu Jackson have each been charges with second degree murder and armed criminal action in last week’s murder of Deandre Magice.
According to court records Police responded to a sound of shots call early last Wednesday morning near 10th and Brooklyn and found the victim in the street.
Video surveillance showed the victim walking south on Brooklyn when two individuals dressed in hoodies came out of the dark in the area of 10th and Brooklyn. The suspects ran toward the victim and shot him.
After the shooting, the suspects ran south, then west on 11th Street, toward Euclid Avenue.
Last week police executed a search warrant at a residence near 11th and Euclid and discovered both suspects along with other individuals. Police recovered hoodies matching the description given by witnesses as well as a handgun and ammunition.
Both individuals acknowledged being the subjects and Harter told police that Jackson was the one who pulled the trigger, an accusation Jackson denied according to court documents.
Court documents also indicate that both suspects have been involved with a 12th street gang, a rival of a gang on 33rd street. Jackson also admitted to several area robberies in the area.
Prosecutors have requested a $100,000 cash only bond given the danger to the community both suspects pose.
