Kansas City Police shot and killed a man early Friday morning who was armed with a rifle.
KCPD spokesperson, Doaa El-Ashkar said police were called to the 3200 block of Independence just after 1:00 a.m. on a report of a man with a rifle.
When police arrived, they located the man in the street at 6th and Gladstone.
The officers verbally commanded him to drop his weapon and he refused.
An officer attempted to use less lethal force by firing bean bag rounds at the man, which was also unsuccessful.
Officers followed the man on foot to 8th and Gladstone while continuing to verbally command him to drop the weapon.
The man refused and another witness said they saw the man turn and point his rifle at the officers.
When the man pointed his rifle at officers, police fired their weapons at him.
The man received emergency medical care at the scene and then was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are currently canvassing the area for witnesses and crime scene technicians are processing the scene for evidence.
More details will be given as information is released.
