KANSAS CITY – Scott Wagner has been officially named as the new Director of Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) beginning August 1, 2019. Wagner is the current councilman of the 1st District and Mayor Pro-Tem of Kansas City. He also serves as the chairman of the Finance and Governance Committee.

This announcement comes two months after previous NEAT Director, Mary Cyr, stepped down March 25 to pursue a different career opportunity in Overland Park.

Founded in 2010, Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) is Northeast Kansas City’s emerging Community Development Corporation that is closely aligned with Mattie Rhodes Center. NEAT facilitates resources for the Historic Northeast community, works with neighborhoods and businesses, and spearheads important projects related to the community. NEAT serves Independence Plaza, Indian Mound, Lykins, Pendleton Heights, Scarritt Renaissance, and Sheffield neighborhoods.

Wagner’s involvement in the Historic Northeast has been extensive. He was a previous resident of the Indian Mound neighborhood and served as former treasurer and president of the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association until 2010.

David Stadler, vice president of Administration and Community Development at the Mattie Rhodes Center said the comprehensive selection process included neighborhood engagement and conversation. He added that between now and the time Wagner’s official role begins, the Mattie Rhodes Center will be “working through next steps and considering those things that need to be accomplished that will enable him to hit the ground running in August.”

Stadler said Wagner’s involvement and commitment to the community will benefit the future of the Historic Northeast.

“We believe that Scott’s strong knowledge, experience, and love of working in the community will help to advance the initiatives of the Historic Northeast,” he said. “He maintains extensive experience in marketing and public relations with a strong heart for the Northeast community.”

Stadler thanked the Northeast community for the involvement in the selection process.

“I would like to issue a special thank you to all of the residents that took the time to talk with me over the last two months, and assisted in the scoring of resumes submitted for the NEAT Director position.  I believe that we are all stronger together as a community with strong momentum in several areas already occurring.”
