Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters-Baker has charged an eighteen year-old man in connection with the murder of Lakeasha Taylor in the 6400 block of E. 12th Terrace last Sunday. Marlon D. Davis Jr. faces one count of 2nd Degree Murder and one count of Armed Criminal Action in connection to the shooting.

KCPD Officers responded to the scene Sunday morning at approximately 9:45am on the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the body of a female victim inside the residence with a single shell casing laying nearby.

Court records show Davis and Taylor shared a residence off and on with other “tenants” in the 6400 block of E. 12th Terrace. The two were not romantically involved. According to witness reports, the suspect, victim and a number of other individuals at the scene were all hanging out at the residence and were joking around, sarcastically poking fun at each other. The victim made a sarcastic remark about the shooter, joking about how he didn’t pay rent. Everyone laughed at the comment. The shooter became angry about the comment and abruptly left the room, returning with a handgun. He then approached the victim from the rear. As she turned to face the shooter he shot the victim in the upper torso, fatally wounding her. Davis then fled the residence on foot in possession of the handgun.

A Stop Order was issued by Police officers and Davis was picked up in Kansas City, Kansas Wednesday evening. He was contacted by KCPD officers at KC KS Police Headquarters where after being advised of his rights refused to speak with officers. He remains in custody in Kansas City, KS.

Prosecutors have recommended a $500,000 bond.
