It’s the Christmas season and this Newsdog would like to recognize Kansas City Councilman Jermaine Reed for his extensive, sweeping give-away of taxpayer dollars to the already hemorrhaging 18th and Vine Entertainment District at Thursday’s City Council Legislative session.
Councilman Reed took it upon himself to sponsor City Ordinance No. 180825 that re-directs roughly $10,000,000 (that’s ten million dollars for you decimal point-impaired folks playing along at home) from citizen-directed and Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC)-approved infrastructure projects like sidewalks, street maintenance and street lights, and forwarding it to an entertainment district that has already been propped up by over $100 million in taxpayer subsidies over the last twenty or so years with little or no oversight.
Reed’s ordinance was then approved unanimously by Council.
The Dog would like to remind the Council that this ordinance, and any other ordinance that puts the spending of PIAC dollars in the hands of elected officials rather than citizen-sponsored and PIAC Committee-approved projects, violates the original intent of what the Public, emphasis on “public”, Improvements Advisory Committee was established to do.
Merry Christmas Kansas City and congratulations. That’s $10 million in infrastructure improvements that will never see the light of day thanks to this guy and his pet projects.
Thanks for that lump of coal, Councilman Reed. Much appreciated.
Christmas Giving
