I don’t know about you, but I am tired of the same, “do nothing” candidates that beg for our votes during election season, but are nowhere to be found the rest of the year. We need LEADERS, not just seat fillers. We need representatives who are vocal about the needs of our community, and show up, and keep showing up, and pounding the pavement, and rolling up their sleeves to advocate for us!
Two years ago, 19 votes in a primary election decided our next state representative. Similarly, next week, we get to choose changes in leadership or reaffirm our commitment to candidates we believe have fought for us. When speaking to a panel of young leaders recently, I was asked “who checks elected officials in the decisions they make?” My answer is simple – THE VOTERS! Two years ago, less than 18% of eligible voters showed up at some polling locations across the Northeast, and at others, turnout was only 6%!
We can do better than that! Let’s keep registering more voters and make sure all eligible voters show up on election day! See you at the polls on Tuesday!
