Over 300 people flooded the American Jazz Museum in the 18th and Vine Jazz District last night for the Northeast Chamber of Commerce’s Beans, Beads & Booze fundraiser, marking the largest crowd yet in the event’s history.

“Online ticket sales were better than ever this year,” said Northeast Chamber President Bobbi Baker-Hughes from behind a feathered green Mardi Gras mask. “We’re very pleased to partner with the Jazz Museum this year and we’re looking forward to growing that partnership down the road.”

Party patrons feasted on a Cajun buffet of red beans and rice, gumbo, shrimp etouffee, hush puppies and beignets all served up by Chamber volunteers and staff. Event organizers also partnered with RideKC and chartered a bus that picked up attendees from four different stops in and around the Historic Northeast community.

Marissa Baum, Director of Development and Outreach for the American Jazz Museum at 18th and Vine, was more than pleased with the event’s turnout and the positive exposure for the Jazz District.

“We’re excited about making these cultural connections that can help build those community bridges in Kansas City’s urban core,” said Baum. “We’re really looking forward to future collaborations with groups located around the 18th & Vine district.”
