Community crime meetings
Community members are continuing to meet every Wednesday at noon at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd. The group brings neighborhood safety concerns together and forwards them to the police department. All are welcome.

NEKC Chamber is planning an educational trip to Lawrence. Cost is $35 and includes transportation and dinner. The trip is designed to give attendees ideas on how to transform Independence Avenue into a more attractive area for visitors. KC Tweed Ride
Bring your bicycle and wear tweed! The second annual KC Tweed Ride will be along Cliff Drive and area neighborhoods beginning at 10 a.m. Families of all ages are welcome for the five-mile bike ride. Rx Takeback event
KCPD and the Drug Enforcement Administration are offering the public a free and safe way to dispose of outdated or unwanted prescription medicines as part of the National Prescription Drug Takeback Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at East Patrol, 5301 E. 27th St. The service is anonymous and no questions are asked.

EMPOWER Kidney Disease Classes
Free EMPOWER Kidney Disease classes are available on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The May 10 class will be held at Truman Medical Center Lakewood in Lee’s Summit, Mo. The classes teach attendees how to take control of kidney disease and make healthy choices. Call (816) 842-0076 to register.
Tour the World business crawl
The Annual International Business Crawl will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a reception from 3 to 4 p.m. Discover businesses along Independence and Prospect Boulevards on a walking tour or shuttle and get your passport stamped at the various locations.
