KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Seventeen Kansas City-based international restaurants will be featured on Saturday, September 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as part of the Northeast Kansas City ‘International Taste and Tour’ event.
Now in its fifth year, the annual showcase of international flavors will held at the Don Bosco Center (580 Campbell St, Kansas City, MO 64106) in Columbus Park. The popular event is hosted by the Northeast Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Bobbi Baker-Hughes says that the International Taste and Tour, which was originally held at the American Sons of Columbus building on Independence Avenue, will likely have to move to an even larger venue next year.
“The growth has happened because people are really wanting to experience what we have here in our community,” said Baker-Hughes. “People come in from outside of the Northeast, and outside of the Kansas City area.”
According to Baker-Hughes, in addition to samples of some of the city’s best international food, this year’s event will feature traditional dancing, a live auction, special appearances from notable Kansas City personalities, and a world marketplace where the featured restaurants can sell their respective products.
“We won’t just be eating food; we’re going to have a world bazaar,” said Baker-Hughes. “That’s really cool, because a lot of the stores have small shops. We want our community to know what’s inside those shops.”
The cost to attend the International Taste and Tour is $60 at the door, but a special online rate of $50 can be applied if tickets are purchased by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9. A VIP reception, which includes exclusive access to ‘Taste of Brazil Market’ special appetizers, signature cocktails, Brazilian dancers, and more, will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Those tickets cost $80.
Carl Markus of the Northeast Chamber of Commerce said that the chamber will be featuring representatives from more continents than ever at this year’s International Taste and Tour.
“It’s varied this year,” said Markus. “We’re actually buying five new flags, because we have that many different continents represented.”
