KANSAS CITY, Missouri — In an area with restaurant options, El Paso Del Norte stands out.

This past March, El Paso Del Norte, 3430 Independence Ave., joined the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The first Mexican restaurant and bakery to open in the Northeast community, El Paso Del Norte was opened 18 years ago on Halloween by Iniguez family. Since then, owners have made several improvements to the building and menu.

The restaurant is owned and operated by Mike and his two brothers, Armando and Daniel Iniguez. Saul, Mike’s father, consults for the business.

“At first the building was a small little rectangle,” Mike said. “We have slowly been adding things.”

According to Mike, one of the goals for their business is to bring people from outside the Northeast and have a good, responsible local business. Mike added there will be more expansion to come in the future.

“We are going to add more food options,” Mike said, adding they also plan to fix the parking lot and tighten security. Location plays a big part in having a successful business.

“Location is good for us,” Mike said. “We are in a heavy Hispanic community and have the biggest parking lot.”

Veronica Estrada, a cashier at El Paso Del Norte, said another goal for the business is to have their customers leave happy and satisfied. The unique thing about El Paso Del Norte is that they buy all their items from local businesses around the Northeast area.

“It’s all local,” Mike said. “We are a part of the neighborhood.”

Angelica Lopez, an employee at El Paso Del Norte, believes everyone should try El Paso Del Norte at least once.

“The food is rich and it is a very good atmosphere,” Lopez said. “Everything is good.”

El Paso Del Norte is open Monday – Saturday from 5:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. and from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sundays.
