Celebrate 30 years of the Slavic Festival

KANSAS CITY, Missouri — For 30 years, Sugar Creek has been celebrating the Slavic immigrants who settled in the area during around the early 1900s.

This weekend, you can join in on the annual celebration during the Sugar Creek Slavic Festival. The two day event begins at 5 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5 and 6. The festival includes food, art, and entertainment. Grammy nominated accordion Alex Meixner closes each night with performances at 10:30 p.m. The food available includes sarma [cabbage rolls], kielbasa [polish sausage] and other dishes.

At the festival you can purchase artifacts, hand-painted Ukrainian eggs, imported crystals, and Baltic amber.  The festival provides free parking and shuttles throughout the event. For more information, visit www.slavicfest.com.
