KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Guadalupe Centers, Inc. is celebrating its 24th annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta this weekend.
Beginning Friday, May 1, through Sunday, May 3rd, at the center located at 1015 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez, this cultural event began in 1922, making it the original Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in Kansas City. It is expected to attract over 10,000 people for the three day festivities which includes a Five Qué Run/Walk for the whole family.
Cinco de Mayo festivities schedule:
Concert/Dance – Friday, May 1.
Cinco de Mayo festivities will initiate with an outdoor concert/dance on Friday, May 1. Headline for this year’s concert is two time Grammy nominee Emilio Navaira from San Antonio. Also performing that night is DJ Bobby C and well known local band Las Estrellas. It all begins at 5 and runs until 11 p.m. where Mexican food and drinks will be sold. Admission to the event is $7.
5 de Mayo 5Que Run/Walk and Fiesta Mexicana – Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3.
Wake up early on Saturday and join them for their second annual 5Qué Run/Walk along Southwest Boulevard starting at 9 a.m. Individuals, teams of five, children and seniors are welcome. To sign-up, go to www.cincodemayo5que.com. The Fiesta continues immediately following the race, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with free admission.
The party continues on Sunday with free admission from 1 – 8 p.m., featuring Mariachis, as well as local Mexican Folkloric Dancers. The celebration ends with a performance from Calle Seis from Austin, Texas. All type of Mexican food and beverages will be sold that day as well.
Mariachi Mass – Sunday May 3,
This mass is open to the whole community and will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, located at 907 Avenida Cesar E. Chavez. A local Mariachi band will delight the public with their music and “Sala de Honor” honorees will be recognized for their volunteer work and performances at past fiestas. Mass begins at noon.
