KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The primary election for city council and mayoral seats in Kansas City, Mo., is this Tuesday.

With the upcoming election, there’s possibility for major turnover at City Hall. Seven of the 12 current council members are set to leave office, either because of term limits or resignation. Members Ed Ford, Russ Johnson, Melba Curls, Jan Marcason, Cindy Circo and John Sharp are all term-limited and on their way out. Michael Brooks recently resigned before his first term could end.

Candidates Northeast residents will be asked to vote for include: Forestine Beasley, Karmello Coleman, Carol Gatlin, Stephan Gordon, and Quinton Lucas running for Third District At-large; Shaheer Akhtab, Bryan Dial, Jamekia Kendrix, Jermaine Reed, and Rachel Riley running for Third District In-district; Jared Campbell, Jim Glover, Katheryn Shields, and Bryan Stalder running for Fourth District, At-large; and Jolie Justus and John Fierro running for Fourth District, In-district.

Only one Kansas City Council incumbent, Scott Taylor, is running unopposed. Also, Jeffery Roberts will face off against incumbent Scott Wagner for the First District, At-large seat. For the mayor’s seat, Mayor Sly James will face off against Clay Chastain and Vincent Lee. The runoff election is scheduled for June 23, 2015. All city council members are elected at the same time to four-year terms and may serve two consecutive terms.

Also, residents will be asked two questions: Should Kansas City remove from the park system vacant property located at 534 Highland Ave., and shall the city be reauthorized to impose an annual fee on short term loan establishments for the administrative expenses related to the regulation, inspection and permitting of such establishments, in the amount of $1,000.00 for each permit?
