Community crime meetings
Community members are continuing to meet every Wednesday at noon at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd. The group brings neighborhood safety concerns together and forwards them to the police department. All are welcome.
Teen Hip Hop Academy
Every Wednesday beginning at 4:40 p.m., Jeremy and his crew from Hip Hop Academy host this free event at the North-East Public Library, teaching creativity to youth through the positive elements of Hip Hop culture. KCMSD Repurposing meeting
The Kansas City Missouri School District (KCMSD) will hold a district-wide information session regarding the repurposing of shuttered school buildings. The session will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Manual Career Tech, 1215 Truman Rd. Spanish translation will be available.

KCMSD Public Budget Presentation
The Kansas City Missouri School District (KCMSD) invites the community to attend its series of pubic budget presentations in April. The first meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at Gladstone Elementary, 335 N. Elmwood.

Knights of Columbus monthly breakfast
The Knights of Columbus will hold its monthly breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the St. Joseph Hall at St. Anthony Church, 3208 Lexington. Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, potato casserole, chorizo con huevos and a variety of other foods, along with coffee and juice, will be available. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 8 to 12.

Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council Meeting
Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. in the basement of the City Union Mission’s New Life Building,1301 Olive ( 13th & Olive). Speakers will include Michael Seward, the new Director of the HELP Center, and Wolfgang Bucher with the Chalk Walk.
Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association Meeting
Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association general meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Scuola Vita Nuova Charter School, 544 Wabash. Speakers will include Interim City Manager Troy Schulte and David Park, director of the Neighborhood & Community Services Department. Both will talk about the services offered to neighborhoods by Kansas City, Mo.

The Kansas City Missouri School District (KCMSD) invites the community to attend its series of pubic budget presentations. Upcoming meetings are: Wednesday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m., 1211 McGee St.; Thursday, April 14, at 6 p.m., Central High School, 3221 Indiana; and Thursday, April 28, at 6 p.m., Hartman Elementary, 8111 Oak.

Green Art Day
Green Art Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Concourse Park, Historic Northeast. Trash cans painted by local artists will be on display, along with flower pots with seedlings for visitors to paint and take home with them. Performance artists are also scheduled to perform.
Mike Elder’s “Icing on the Cake” for Newhouse
Newhouse and Kansas City’s own Mike Elder, a three-time undefeated champion of TLC’s “Ultimate Cake-Off,” will present the Icing on the Cake sugar art exhibition and live challenge from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at the Sheraton Overland Park Hotel, 6100 College Blvd.
NEKC Chamber plans trip to Lawrence

EMPOWER Kidney Disease Classes
Free EMPOWER Kidney Disease classes are available on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 pm. Upcoming classes will be located at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo., on April 19 and Johnson County Central Library in Overland Park, Kan., on April 26. The classes will teach attendees how to take control of kidney disease and make healthy choices. Call (816) 842-0076 to register.
Chalk Walk
Now in its fourth year, Chalk Walk will be held April 23-24 at Kessler Park on the Concourse, 200 Benton Blvd. This free, family friendly event allows attendees to join local and amateur artists in decorating the sidewalks along the Concourse. Other activities will include Radio Disney, kite flying, a tent full of children’s activities and Buskers from Vodville Entertainment, among other activities.
