For more than a year, members of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 were busy collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
Their efforts resulted in two gallon sized plastic bags stuffed with pop tabs. Knights of Columbus Council #4613 Financial Secretary Robert J. Lawrence Sr. and Deputy Grand Knight John Polito delivered the tabs to the local Ronald McDonald House.
According to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) website, pop tabs are easier to store than aluminum cans and more hygienic. Ronald McDonald Houses deliver the tab collections to local recycling centers where they’re weighed for value. Then, the recycling center cuts a check to the local RMHC.
The area RMHC chapter provides a “home away from home” for families to stay while their child is hospitalized at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
“Our Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on healing their child – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest,” the RMHC website stated. “We believe that when a child is hospitalized, the love and support of family is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.”
