A 103-year longevity has helped InStore Design Display (IDD) earn their newest award from the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

During a May 15 luncheon with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, InStore Design Display won the Legacy of Kansas City award and also earned a spot on the Chamber’s list of Top 10 Small Businesses.

“To be selected for the top 10 of small (Kansas City) businesses, we were surprised, frankly; we did not think we would have the opportunity to win the Mr. K award,” IDD Chief Executive Officer Ed Redhair said. “It is something you do everyday in your business that you get rewarded on – for having service to the community, taking care of your customers and operating your business like you should. You get recognized for that.”

The businesses nominated for the Legacy of Kansas City award had to be running for at least 15 years, be headquartered in the Greater Kansas City area, employ no more than 250 employees, provide efficient products or services over a long time period and be a for-profit business.

“We have 280 years of combined experience here with our staff,” Redhair said. “It is kind of corny to say we have a family atmosphere, but we feel like we do treat our people well. We give them a say in the business, the power to make suggestions… and to treat them like they want to be treated.”

The Legacy of Kansas City award is not the first award IDD has been recognized for this year. Missouri Bank presented IDD with the 2013 Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award. Intrust Bank also gave IDD the 2013 Top 10 Small Business award.

IDD is located on the corner of Truman and Indiana and has served the Kansas City area since 1910. Among other businesses in the Northeast, Redhair said IDD is a business that promotes community involvement as well as the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District.
