KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Thirty years ago today, May 23, a 14-year-old girl disappeared from the Northeast area and was never seen again.
According to a press release from the Kansas City Police Department, Jody Ledkins called her mother on May 23, 1985, and said she was on her way home from a friend’s house. She was last seen walking northbound on Winchester from 14th Street. She also may have been going to her boyfriend’s house at 704 Cambridge Ave. Police suspect foul play.
Detectives have continued to work the case for the last 30 years. They joined with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to produce age-progressed photos of what Ledkins would look like in 1998 at age 28, and last year at age 43. You can see the produced photos at www.kcmo.gov/police/missing-persons/jody-ledkins-missing/.
At the time she disappeared, Jody Ledkins was five-foot-one and weighed 90 pounds. She had blonde hair and blue eyes. She wore glasses, had a small mole under her chin, a large birthmark under her arm, an appendectomy scar and “perfect” teeth. Her mother, Karen Stratton, now lives in Greenforest, Ark.
