Scarritt Renaissance 4th of July celebration
The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association’s annual 4th of July celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 4, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Concourse (200 S. Benton Blvd.). The event is free, fun and safe for family and friends. Activities will include a laser light show, food trucks, games, and more. Funding for the event is provided in part by the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF).

Thursday, July 5

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Trash amnesty after 4th of July
Trash pick-up will be delayed by one day following the 4th of July holiday this year. In addition, trash amnesty will be granted.

Kansas City Zoo at North-East Library
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host the Kansas City Zoomobile on Friday, July 6, form 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. With a large variety of exciting and interactive programs, the Zoomobile brings the world of the wild to you. Connect with nature and wildlife through a fascinating journey featuring awesome artifacts, fun science, captivating stories, and of course, live animals.

 

Saturday, July 7

Animal House at Central Library
Stop by the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Sunday, July 7 at 1:30 p.m. for a showing of National Lampoon’s Animal House in the Durwood Film Vault. Released 40 years ago this month, Animal House elevated Belushi from Saturday Night Live standout to big-screen star, helping to chart a path for a succession of SNL regulars from Eddie Murphy to Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Monday, July 9

Summer Food Rocks at Sycamore Groves
Sycamore Groves Apartments (2920 E. 17th St.) is feeding children and teens this summer (ages 1-18) as part of its Summer Food Rocks free summer meal program. From June 3 through August 4, Sycamore Groves will be offering free breakfast (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) and lunch (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday. Lykins Neighborhood meeting
The next Lykins Neighborhood meeting will be held on Monday, July 9, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3704 E. 12th St. Join Lykins neighbors as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups, and focus on creating a better community. Other neighborhoods in Historic Northeast are more than welcome to join.

 

Tuesday, July 10

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 10, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School, 711 Woodland Ave., KCMO.

Voter registration deadline – July 11, 2018
The deadline to register to vote in the August 7, 2018 Missouri primary election is July 11, 2018. Missouri voter registration sites include the Kansas City Election Board office (Union State, Lower Level B), all Kansas City, Missouri library locations and all Mid-Continent Library locations.

KC No Violence Alliance community meeting
The Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA) invites Northeast residents for a community conversation on Monday, July 11, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Milestone Youth Center (3417 E. 12th St., KCMO 64127) to discuss NoVA’s enforcement results and resources provided in the Northeast as a result of targeted efforts in the area over the past months. Light refreshments will be served.
