Kansas City Museum Project Update
The Kansas City Museum will host a exhibit design and development presentation on Wednesday, June 27, from 6:15 to 8 p.m. at it’s space in the Historic Garment District (800 Broadway). A formal presentation will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., with an open house with design team members taking place from 7:15 p.m. until 8 p.m. Hear from the Museum project team about the newest in the Exhibit Design and Development process. Learn more of the core interpretative and thematic core stories that Museum guests will experience in its exhibits and programs. Representatives from JE Dunn will also be present to provide an update about construction at Corinthian Hall.

ESL Conversation Group
Stop by the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27 for an ESL conversation group. In class you will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. No fee or books required. Contact Estelle at 816-560-0135 with questions.

CID five-year celebration
The Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (CID) will host a five-year celebration of the CID on Wednesday, June 27, from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. at 2657 Independence Blvd. Members of the Urban Core Group and the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will be present. Thursday, June 28

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Introduction to finding grants
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an introductory class about finding grants on Thursday, June 28, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Are you new to the field of grantseeking? Discover what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and how to find potential funders.
You will learn the 10 most important things you need to know about finding grants, including: who funds nonprofits and what are their motivations; what do funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding; how do you identify potential funders and make the first approach.
This program is presented by Teleange’ Thomas, Directior of the Foundation Center Midwest and Kelly Mahon, Funding Information Network Supervisor at Kansas City Public Library.

History at Ilus Davis Park
The Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City (NSDKC) will host a history presentation at the monument in Ilus Davis Park (1000 Locust) on Thursday, June 28, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will include free hot dogs and Italian sausage, in addition to a trio of speakers: Parks and Recreation Director Mark McHenry, NSDKC monument designers Gary Hicks and NSDKC Membership Chair Carl DiCapo.

 

Friday, June 29

Coffee with Cops
KCPD has organized a Coffee with Cops event on Friday, June 29, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 5347 Independence Avenue. McDonald’s will be donating 50 cents of every dollar to the KCMO Police Department Police Athletic League (PAL) Unit.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, June 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Saturday, June 30

Citywide Clean-up – Lykins Square Park
A city-wide clean up will take place on Saturday June 3, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a Northeast location at Lykins Square Park (8th and Myrtle). There will be two dumpsters at the park in conjunction with the clean-up event.

 

Sunday, July 1

Northeast Book Club
Do you love reading? Check out the Northeast Library’s monthly book club on Sunday, July 1, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the library’s community room. Come to the North-East Book Group each month to share your passion for books and join in on riveting book discussions. This month the group will be discussing One Summer, America 1927 by Bill Bryson.

Summer Food Rocks at Sycamore Groves
Sycamore Groves Apartments (2920 E. 17th St.) is feeding children and teens this summer (ages 1-18) as part of its Summer Food Rocks free summer meal program. From June 3 through August 4, Sycamore Groves will be offering free breakfast (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) and lunch (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday. Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting
The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, July 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone).

 

Tuesday, July 3

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

Second annual 4th of July celebration at 18th and Vine
Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II will hos the Second Annual 18th & Vine 4th of July Celebration on Tuesday, July 3, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. on The Great Lawn at 1600 Buck O’Neil way. This event will include free music and fireworks!

Scarritt Renaissance 4th of July celebration
The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association’s annual 4th of July celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 4, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Concourse (200 S. Benton Blvd.). The event is free, fun and safe for family and friends. Activities will include a laser light show, food trucks, games, and more. Funding for the event is provided in part by the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund (NTDF).

Trash amnesty after 4th of July
Trash pick-up will be delayed by one day following the 4th of July holiday this year. In addition, trash amnesty will be granted.
