KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Murder charges have been filed in the Wednesday, October 26 beating death of Kansas City man Eddie McCauley.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Armed Criminal Action have been brought against 26-year-old Thaddeus Thompson, who witnesses reported had been upset after accusing the victim of inappropriately touching him while the two slept in a tent on the night of Tuesday, October 25.

While arguing on Wednesday, Thompson allegedly grabbed a metal pole and hit the victim in the head with it. Thompson later told police that he attacked McCauley with the pole after he ‘snapped.’

Police originally released details of what they dubbed a ‘suspicious death’ on the morning of Wednesday, October 26, but later began investigated the death as a homicide.

Police were called to the scene after witnesses walking down the street noticed a black male who appeared to be roughly 40 years old lying unresponsive on the sidewalk. Authorities deemed the death suspicious, but didn’t initially reveal a cause of death. Later in the afternoon, however, KCPD Public Information Officer Darin Snapp revealed that the case was being investigated as a homicide, noting that the cause of death appeared to be blunt force trauma.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000 in the case.
