KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a suspicious death in the Northeast.

According to Sgt. Kari Thompson, of the KCPD media unit, around 8:30 a.m. Friday, officers were called to the 500 block of Drury Avenue for an unknown medical call. Upon arrival, Kansas City Fire Department personnel determined the victim, an 18-year-old male, was dead.

Rosilyn Temple, executive director of KC Mothers in Charge — an organization charged with reducing crime through violence prevention, education and intervention, as well as guide and support the families of victims — said her organization was called to help lend support to the victim’s family.

“I tell them I understand their pain because I’ve lost my son [to violence],” Temple said. “We understand what they’re going through and offer support.”
