The Missouri Department of Social Services has reopened the Summer Pandemic-EBT application until Oct. 10th providing a short window for eligible families to apply for and receive the $375 per student, summer benefit retroactively. Every student who attended KCPS during the 2020-21 school year is eligible to receive $375 on an EBT card for summer food, regardless of family income.
“This is a HUGE deal for families that don’t already receive SNAP benefits,” said KCPS Spokesperson Elle Moxley.

“This is money that’s meant to supplement the meals that they typically would have eaten at school or in a summer program and with food prices going up, we know that this is a real need for families,” Moxley added.

In many cases in the Kansas City School District, students will eat their last good meal on Friday at lunch and their next substantial meal is breakfast at school on Monday.

“We just want them to take advantage of every opportunity to have full bellies because we know that kids learn better when they’ve been fed,” Moxley said.

Applications must be made by the October 10th deadline. Turn around time for the card via the US Mail is roughly 4-6 weeks.
