Parents, alumni and staff were invited to Northeast High School (415 S. Van Brunt Blvd) on Sept. 18 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which began Sept. 15 and continues through Oct. 15.

A luncheon featuring Mexican rice, refried beans, tamales, tortilla chips and horchata was enjoyed while Principal Alisha Glover welcomed attendees and provided information for the coming school year.

Following the meal, attendants were led to the school auditorium for student performances featuring poetry, vocal and guitar solos, Folklorico dancing, rap and tejano dance.

Guest speaker Victor Aguilar gave a moving speech titled “What Hispanic Heritage Month Means to Me”. Aguilar encouraged the audience to “Stand up for Northeast (neighborhood), stand up for Northeast High, make this the best place it can be.”
