Northeast News

This newshound is still walkin’ on air.
This past weekend shaped up to be one for the record books in the HNE and this lil news-diggin pooch was tickled to be a part of the action. Two huge events shared center stage on Saturday and made for one heckuva weekend in the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood.
The Northeast Kansas City Historical Society hosted their annual historic homes tour on Saturday and posted some record breaking numbers. Over 800 people purchased tickets and toured six wonderfully restored homes along Benton and Gladstone Boulevards. That’s over twice the number that was expected, 300 or so. Those kind of homes tour numbers haven’t been posted in HNE since the late 1990’s when Scarritt was still hosting annual homes tours.
Not to be outdone, the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association’s playground committee, partnering with Humana and KaBoom!, marshaled up over 150 volunteers on Saturday and in a mere six hours, constructed a full fledged, bonafided playground complete with giant Adirondack chairs, a jungle-gym and a mulched play surface. There was a lot of heavy lifting to pull off both events and some much deserved thanks go out to NEKCHS President Kent Dicus and all of the homes tour docents who staffed the tour homes on Saturday. Playground committee Chair Amanda Stinger along with neighbors Tracy Gardner and Mickie and Joe Blank put in some serious hours last week in the construction of the playground, too.
This feisty news-dog is throwin’ some serious props to everyone involved in these two stellar events that truly showcased what neighborhood participation is all about. Northeast proud baby! Woof!
