Northeast News
June 3, 2015
It’s not often this crusty old news-dog strays from being the conservative curmudgeon, but this weekend, specifically Saturday in the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood, gave cause for much optimism in our community.
This year, for the first time, a BBQ and Microbrew festival was held in conjunction with the Tour of Kansas City bicycle races. The grounds of the Kansas City Museum were home to roughly a dozen local craft breweries and a couple of top shelf BBQ food trucks, including our own East Bottoms based Local Pig! Nothing pleases this lil’ news writing carnivore like some good ‘que and some tasty suds to wash it down.
Historic Northeast neighbors turned out en masse to watch the cyclists race despite less than desirable weather. The money quote from one of those neighbors was, “if they’re closing off our street, we’re gonna have a party.” Tour of Kansas City organizers promise the BBQ and beer will return next year as part of the races, which is music to this doggie’s ears. Comments from attendees were all positive, noting the natural beauty of the neighborhood and its historic housing stock. This doggie will take that as a big positive and looks forward to even more events like this over the coming months. This news-pooch is lovin’ life in HNE.
