Kudos to the more than 100 volunteers who selflessly gave of their Saturday morning to make Historic Northeast a much cleaner place to live.

Brush was cleared, trash was removed, litter was abated and we’re a cleaner community for the effort.

Organizers of this year’s community-wide clean-up noted that more than 800 waste tires were collected from area streets and more than 600 bags of trash were filled, four city trash trucks were filled to overflowing with trash and yard waste and three 40-yard dumpsters were filled to overflowing with trash from over 100 previously scheduled bulky item pick-up locations throughout the community.

According to one volunteer, the line of people taking advantage of the free dumpsters never ended throughout the course of the morning.

This crafty news-pooch gives a big shout out to everyone for the herculean effort for making our community just a li’l bit cleaner.

It’s that time again – time to set those clocks back one hour this coming Saturday night, just in time for this Sunday’s Cliffhanger Run.

If you’re confused about which way to set the time, one might do well to simply remember the old adage: Spring Ahead, Fall Back.

Those pesky occupiers are still at it despite only garnering a crowd of about 100 people for last Sunday’s march through the mostly deserted Paseo West area.

Note to organizers: busing non-indigenous, non-locals into town to protest to empty buildings and homeless shelters will accomplish what?

Here’s a thought – if you and your ilk are short on things to do, grab a broom and a trash bag and make yourself useful.

That part of town can use some positive attention and debris removal.
