KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The fight continues.
On Friday afternoon, Peter Hoffman, an attorney with Legal Aid of Western Missouri retained by the Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association, received notice from the city’s Planning and Development Department that Speedy Cash, located at 2600 Independence Blvd., has appealed the city’s demolition order and plans to take the case to the next level, the city’s Board of Zoning Adjustment. Details were lacking in the email Hoffman received from the city, but he said he was certain that his client, Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association, would want to have some sort of input.
“Our office here at Legal Aid will be working with them to determine what form that input takes,” Hoffman said.
Pendelton Heights Neighborhood Association president Jessica Ray was not pleased with the decision.
“The neighborhood is committed to fighting as long as Speedy Cash is willing to appeal,” Ray said. “The city has made their position known and the Pendleton Heights neighborhood has asked Speedy Cash not to appeal out of respect for our wishes as good neighbors and out of respect for the two firefighters who gave their lives that fateful October night. This makes it clear Speedy Cash is not interested in being a good neighbor.”
