Kansas City’s Sheffield neighborhood looks a little spiffier, thanks to neighborhood volunteers and AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team members.
During the March 16 neighborhood clean-up, volunteers collected 70 bags of yard waste from the fruit of the American sweetgum trees on the 6400 block of E. 11th St. and 60 bags of solid waste/litter from secluded alleys and area parks.
AmeriCorps NCCC participants traveled from the Southwest Region campus in Denver, Colo., campus to Kansas City in January and are working with the Kansas City CASH Coalition to provide free tax preparation assistance for qualifying residents. Part of the AmeriCorps NCCC program also includes organizing service day projects, and cleaning up the Sheffield neighborhood was one of them.
