More than 50 ARAMARK volunteers pitched in July 15 to build a community garden for Don Bosco Centers located at Independence and Garfield. Leslie Collins

ARAMARK volunteers flocked to Don Bosco July 15 to build 20 raised beds for the Don Bosco Centers Community Garden.

Volunteers also planted seeds and fruit trees, built several benches and created a “touch garden” for youngsters to get a hands-on look at how a garden grows.

In the future, residents of Northeast will be able to rent a space to grow their own produce.

Asked why ARAMARK volunteered to help, Mike Mosakowski, general manager of ARAMARK Refreshment Services, said the company wanted to give back to the community and help turn an abandoned lot into “something the community can be proud of and use.”
