UMB Community Bank President Jon Henderson grills hot dogs for guests at the chamber after hours event Oct. 5.

October 12, 2011

It’s not Rizzo v. Royster again (yet) but another key election here in Missouri has just been decided by a single vote margin.

Former Northeast resident Rod Chapel recently lost his bid to become the president of the state’s NAACP chapter by a single vote to incumbent president Mary Ratliffe of Columbia.

Chapel, who was the subject of some articles a few years back because of his flop-house/concert venue at 535 Gladstone Blvd., seems to think that attempting to litigate his way into office instead of being elected by the majority is the way to go.

No word yet on whether the state NAACP will grant Chapel his new election, but we’re relatively certain, given case law from right here last summer, it ain’t happenin’.

This li’l pooch enjoyed attending the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce after hours event Oct. 5 at UMB Bank on Independence Avenue. We socialized and chowed down on some delectable treats.

Be sure to check out the next after hours event, which will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Central Bank of Kansas City, 2301 Independence Blvd. This after hours is a chance to network, eat refreshments and win prizes.

Both chamber and non-chamber members are welcome to attend.
