If you are an Internet junkie like so many of our readers are, you can now follow the Northeast News on Facebook! “Kansas City’s Northeast News” is a brand new Facebook page created for fans and readers of Historic Northeast’s award-winning, weekly community newspaper.
“Newspapers need to think outside the box in order to continue to be competitive,” Publisher Michael Bushnell said. “This is just another way people can keep up with events in the neighborhood even if they live outside the area.”

First the ice — now the potholes
If the ruts created in the streets by unplowed, melting snow and ice haven’t torn your car’s undercarriage to smithereens yet, congratulations. Now, a new hazard has arisen to test your motoring skill — potholes! None of them seem to be of the diminutive variety. This ‘lil pooch hopes that attention to potholes will be a little more acute than the lax approach given to removing snow and ice from city thoroughfares during and after the last blizzard. If you’ve got 30 or 40 minutes, you can call the city’s 311 Action Center and report the offending crater to the city. We’re hoping that this doesn’t mean the reappearance of metal plates in the streets. Stay tuned.

Budget time
The city’s new budget is out, and reportedly there’s more money for infrastructure issues such as snow removal and weed abatement. We hear the boys in blue will be getting an increased budget, as well. All of this is good news to the local citizenry, who screamed bloody murder about the complete and total lack of snow removal over the past few weeks. No word from City Hall about the where the money to defend the two new lawsuits against the mayor and his spousal unit will come from, though. This news-pooch, however, thinks this week’s El Bryan Retort is pretty much on the money.
