Starting at the Northeast News in 2020 as a summer intern, Garcia Montoya stepped up to provide coverage between Managing Editors Elizabeth Orosco and Abby Hoover. Since then, she’s been a reliable and enthusiastic contributor.

During her time at UMKC, Garcia Montoya was a Henry W. Bloch Legacy Scholar and a Graduate Student Ambassador, participated in Multicultural Student Affairs, the Latinx Student Union and Avanzando Mentoring Program, the Honors College, College Democrats, Latinos of Tomorrow and HerCampus.

Garcia Montoya works for U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver’s Kansas City office, starting as a Congressional Fellow, and later a Congressional Caseworker. She will begin her role as a Community Affairs Liaison following graduation. She was also a Kauffman Foundation Public Affairs Intern, and a Communications Intern in Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas’s office.

In 2022, Revolución Educativa (RevED) tapped Garcia Montoya to provide education reporting in Spanish for the Northeast News through an exciting and innovative partnership.

The Northeast News staff is proud of Daisy’s academic accomplishments and wish her the best on her future endeavors.
