Kansas City Public Library’s Northeast branch (KCPL) hosts a myriad of classes for its community — including English classes for adults wanting to learn another language.

Through Refugee and Immigrant Services and Empowerment (RISE), Non-native speaking adults can learn the language with a tutor. Refugee and Immigrant Outreach Services Manager Julie Robinson said class sizes will be limited to 10 students — ensuring students will have one-on-one time to  work with their tutors.

The classes available for non-English speaking residents include English one: zero to minimal English background; English two for beginners; English for Citizenship, Financial Literacy and Missouri Driver’s License should have an intermediate understanding of English. English one and two  will have enrollment for the first two weeks of class, while all other courses have open enrollment policies.

Financial Literacy and Missouri Driver’s License classes are open to anyone 14 years old or older, but all other classes are for adults only, Robinson said. Robinson says learning English can help parents and their students not need an interpreter as often.

Community members interested in classes can reach out to RISE at rise@kclibrary.org or call (816)-701-3766.
