Last week, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department Parks Ambassadors were honored by the Parks Board for their thousands of hours of volunteer service in Kansas City’s parks.

Kelly Turner, Resident Engagement Officer with the Parks Department shared that in 2023 alone, Parks Ambassadors have led 319 projects, engaged 3,297 volunteers, and contributed 7,209 hours valued at over $229,246.

One local park in Northeast that gets weekly attention from Parks Ambassadors is the area surrounding Indian Mound park and the eastern environs of Gladstone Boulevard.

Indian Mound neighborhood resident Christopher Lowrance led a group of Parks Ambassadors and volunteers this past Sunday morning, clearing trash and invasive plant species from the wooded areas along the eastern portions of the walking path adjacent to Gladstone Boulevard.

A huge shout out to everyone involved in this ongoing herculean effort. Your work is greatly appreciated.
