Six weeks ago my wife, Chris, was diagnosed with T1C, Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
Since that time, our lives have been filled with doctor’s appointments, scans, surgeries and consultations, all leading to chemotherapy and radiation. The week of July 25 was Chris’ second chemo treatment and true to form, she started losing her hair.
As a show of moral support, and with the help of long-time Independence Avenue Barber Joe Vento, I shaved my head to support her in her fight against this dreaded disease. About 10 minutes after I was officially “cue-balled,” Chris took her turn under Joe’s carefully trained hand.
Chris’ prognosis is excellent and all of her team doctors are looking forward to a complete cure in her case. Chris and I cannot stress enough the importance of early detection, monthly self exams and annual mammograms. If you or your family’s life has been touched by breast cancer, we urge you to come out and walk or sponsor a walker in the upcoming Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure, Aug. 12 at Union Station. Bzzzzzz. Northeast Barber Joe Vento shaves the head of Northeast News’ Publisher Michael Bushnell. Bushnell shaved his head July 27 in solidarity with his wife, Chris, who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Chris had Vento shave her head the same day. Bushnell says Chris’ prognosis is excellent. Be sure to check out our video link! Leslie Collins
