Fire investigators search a residence on North Lawndale to determine the cause of an overnight blaze.

An early morning 2-alarm house fire in the 400 block of North Lawndale has claimed the lives of two Northeast residents. The fire broke out just after 3 a.m. and was centered in the front portion of the residence.

One man reportedly escaped the blaze from a second-story window. Upon arrival firefighters discovered the body of one person on their initial search, and the body of a second individual on their secondary search.

According to family members on the scene the residents had lived in Northeast for quite a while. The family’s dog escaped the fire and is with family members.

Fire investigators and police department bomb and arson investigators remain on the scene to determine a cause.
