Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced Monday via Twitter that he and his longtime partner, Katherine Carttar, have welcomed a son.
“We look forward to introducing out son and Kansas City’s newest Chiefs’ fan, Bennett, to Kansas Citians when the time is right,” Lucas Tweeted.
The family of three spent Baby Bennett’s first few days in the maternity and neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Kansas Hospital due to medical challenges, the mayor said.
“Katherine and I were together well before I was mayor and I hope she will be willing to stand me long after,” Lucas Tweeted. “Like many over the past challenging year, we spent time reprioritizing what’s most important in our lives and realized it’s family.”
Early Tuesday morning, Lucas shared an update that they were out of the hospital. He thanked his followers for all the positive thoughts sent their way.
“I’m blessed with a great village that makes all things possible,” Lucas said. “While the schedule will scale back some in the days ahead, there’s much important work to do. I’ll be seeing you.”
Lucas and Carttar were married in a civil ceremony on April 9, 2021.
Carttar was instrumental in the development of the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (CID) when she interned for the City of Kansas City, Mo.
The First Lady of Kansas City also helped facilitate the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) on the former site of the Chouteau Courts last fall.
