The suspect in the armed robbery this afternoon at the Top Notch Liquor Store at Independence Blvd and Brooklyn may not have been firing on all cylinders when he decided it would be a good idea to rob a liquor store that is equipped with bullet proof glass with a knife this afternoon. We’ll give that a minute to sink in though.
That being said, the suspect donned a disguise consisting of a fake dread-wig, an oversize K-State sweatshirt and a black facemask and entered the store toting his folding utility knife (pictured) around 2:40 Tuesday afternoon and proceeded to rob the store. After stuffing his sweatshirt full of hooch, never mind the black spandex socks, black slippers and the torn shorts make for a perfect identifier, again, not the Avenues best or brightest, the suspect made his escape. Kind of. Right across the street to the park.
Astute store clerks notified the Avenue Angels, Titan Security contracted to the Independence Avenue CID and the KCPD. Titan Officers Sergeant Kenneth Sorensen and Officer Kyle Weishaar responded to the store and reviewed surveillance video and immediately identified the suspect as a known regular offender who frequents Independence Plaza Park.
KCPD Officers arrived on the scene and were led by Titan Officers to the North part of Independence Plaza Park where said suspect was stripped of his disguise, relieved of his weapon, relieved of his stolen hooch and promptly placed in handcuffs. According to arresting officers, our suspect only got a little “sippy sip” before being forcibly relieved of his ill gotten nectar.
According to Titan Security officials, the suspect was charged with Armed Robbery, Threat with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Trespassing and Theft. Oh, and the stolen hooch? The suspect, Dameion Clemons remains in custody.
