KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences will no longer sponsor clinical trials.

According to Lisa Cambridge, director of public relations for KCUMB, the center for clinical research will still be part of the university, however, pursuing clinical trials is not in the school’s immediate future.

The decision to stop the industry sponsored clinical trials came about because KCUMB is transforming its research model into “one focused on advancing scientific exploration of biomedical and translational research.”

“This transformation will provide the University with additional opportunities to actively collaborate with our partners at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Children’s Mercy Hospital and other stakeholders in the life sciences arena,” Cambridge said.

The change, Cambridge continued, will allow the school to expend its current resources, as well as manage future investments to enhance its research activity.

“It positions KCUMB as a magnet for students pursuing degrees in the biomedical sciences,” Cambridge said.

Cambridge said the industry-sponsored trials will officially end July 30, 2014.
